Upright Posture Trainer is a device which connects to your phone via Bluetooth and keep track of your posture if you slouch it vibrates. This review focuses on the Upright Posture Trainer, a user-friendly product and software that promotes and retrains good posture. I received the Upright in a nicely packed lime green magnetic box. The Upright trainer, charging station with eight rubbing alcohol towelettes, USB chord, 60 felt adhesive strips, and three instruction cards were all included in the box. It’s obvious that Upright’s Oded Cohen, designer and company founder and his crew put a lot of effort into the packaging – everything fit together precisely, instructions were accurate, and the branding was first-class.

Getting started

To begin, you must download the Upright App to your phone. The application is simple to access. If you have an iPad or iPhone, go to the App Store and search for Upright. Clicking on the Google Play Store app will also work on Android devices. You can quickly discover Upright in the Google Play App by clicking on it. The download may take no more than a minute or two on either device. After you’ve downloaded the App, launch it and select the “Let’s Go!” option. You can accept the terms of use and privacy policy by selecting this.

Setup Wizard

The setup wizard will be shown on your screen immediately after you’ve accepted the terms of use and privacy policy. The installation procedure is straightforward and takes you through six phases: calibration, signing up, and official registration.

Step 1 – Power Up & Bluetooth On

Opening the device’s settings will be Step 1, which begins with simply pressing down on the middle of the gadget directly beneath the Upright logo. It should begin with a flashing blue light, which indicates that it has switched on. The second step of this procedure is to connect the gadget to your phone using Bluetooth. I got an error message when I initially switched on the Upright because I hadn’t turned on Bluetooth on my phone. If you have this, go to your phone/tablet’s settings and make sure Bluetooth is switched on. It might take a second to discover nearby devices, and you may need to refresh your mobile device’s Bluetooth display. You should see the “Upright” beneath nearby devices after a minute or so. Once you’ve recognized it, you may switch to the Upright App and select “Connect” to sync your Upright with your mobile Bluetooth. When a huge green checkmark appears on your screen, you will be certain that you are linked. The first step was completed successfully.

Step 2 – Where and How to secure the Upright Posture Trainer

Step 2 is about how-to videos than anything else. This stage guides you through where to position the upright and how to attach it. The ideal position is just above your hips and above your pant-line in the middle of your lower back. For exact placement instructions, see the videos. The App also provides you the option to view each video as many times as you want before proceeding to the next step. At the conclusion of step 2, you’re advised to clean and dry your lower back before putting on the Upright. In the case that you need to clean the spot where the upright will connect, rubbing alcohol wipes are included.

Step 3 – Adhesive Strips


Step 3 of the setup wizard explains how to apply the adhesive strips onto your Upright Posture Trainer device and then your lower back. The upright comes with 60 felt adhesive pads. DO NOT remove the adhesive pads from the strip. I rushed ahead and pulled a pad off before watching the full Step 3 video. The adhesive side of the pad should not be touched, as doing so will make it more difficult to remove and might result in the pad becoming less sticky after being applied to your back. Tossing the pad if your fingers come into touch with the sticky side is instructed in the video, but you can just start fresh with a new one.

The following are the instructions for handling the strips as given in the video:

  1. Remove one of the pads and the paper backing on the strip at the perforated line.
  2. Place the felt-side of the pad on top of the black sensory panel on the back of the Upright.
  3. Using your finger, firmly press down on the paper side a few times to ensure that the felt is properly meshing with the sensory panel.
  4. Remove the paper from the adhesive strip carefully without touching the sticky side. In Step 4, you’re ready to attach the Upright to the lowered back.

Step 4 – Securing the Upright Posture Trainer to Your Back

Now it’s time to connect the Upright to your back. In this stage, the Upright is put in place via the wizard’s video instruction. When you’re ready to attach the Upright on your back, softly press the device against your back for a secure fit. I WAS CAUTIOUS when I was attaching the device since I didn’t want to inadvertently hit the power button. I pushed down on the top and sides of the Upright to verify that it was adhering firmly to my back.

Step 5 – Upright Posture

Step 5 is dedicated to the proper upright posture. To learn how to find your natural upright posture, watch the video. Your neutral spine should feel relaxed and natural. Here’s how you can tell:

  1. Slouch forward and arch your back fully. Release and come upright in your neutral upright posture once more.
  2. To get support from your core, pull your belly button in the direction of your spine. Keep a cool head and relax.
  3. Drop your shoulders and roll them back.
  4. Tuck your chin in and stretch your neck out. Extend your spine like a string is pulling you upward from above.
  5. The spine should not be hyper-extended. Relax, loosen your shoulders, and breathe deeply. Now you know what it feels like to be in a neutral upright posture.

Step 6 – Upright requires learning your Back

This step will get you ready for the calibration procedure. The video instructs you to sit up straight in order for Upright to remain away from the rear of your chair, avoiding being bumped or lost. Place both feet firmly on the floor beneath your chair. To begin, press the “Next” button.

The Upright Posture Trainer will require re-calibration each time you employ the App to teach it to identify your upright position and slouched posture. Calibration is crucial since it allows the App to determine if you are slouching or not.

The Upright App will instruct you to sit upright for a few seconds during calibration – when you are in position, click “I’m Upright!”. It will then ask you to slouch forward for a few seconds. When you slouch forward, you will feel a subtle vibration – this indicates that it has adjusted your posture and detected when you are Upright vs. slumping. It will vibrate when you slouch and have a poor posture throughout training. You won’t feel any vibration when you’re maintaining excellent posture.

When training, try to avoid using your chair’s backrest since it might disrupt the Upright device on your back. It’s better not to have your core muscles supported anyhow. Upright should be used only while sitting since the equipment is not yet suitable for walking or standing.

Training Program

The App will take you through the training program after calibration is complete. The App is designed to teach your posture for a total of 21 days. The first five days of training last for 5 minutes each day, and they gradually increase to 60 minutes per day over time. It’s not a huge commitment, and it’s surprisingly successful. The App has a pause option that will stop the training for a few seconds if you need to get up or take a break.

My Dashboard

The “My Dashboard” component is a fantastic summary of your progress throughout the training period. It monitors your daily training goal and notifies you when you’re in good, moderate, and poor posture. During training, there are three smiley face symbols that will light up. Excellent posture is green, average posture is yellow, and bad posture is red. You’ll only feel the buzz when the smiley face is red. I noticed that the yellow smiley face icon was lit for several seconds even though I thought I had a decent posture on several occasions. If you believe the device is off, you may always pause training and reset the Upright.


The Upright Posture Trainer is available for $129.95 with free shipping to the United States. The version with 64 extra strips is also available for $139.95; however, it has been updated and now includes 64 adhesive strips (a total of 124). After you run out of strips and need to purchase more, you may get 64 strips for $14.99. If you’re planning to use the Upright for a long time, it’s worth buying the improved pack with extra strips and saving $5.

The technique of posture training with devices has evolved dramatically! The Upright Posture Trainer is a fantastic gadget that helps you retrain your body to maintain good posture through the use of innovative technology. This is a product that I would strongly suggest if you are looking for posture training equipment that can correctly identify slouching and assist in the correction of your poor posture. The Upright Posture Trainer is particularly good because it takes only a few minutes to a few hours each day to practice. You won’t have to worry about wearing an uncomfortable or noticeable additional garment beneath your clothing.

  • Ensure the adhesive is sticking to your back and that your back is clean and dry. When you’re having difficulties with your current adhesive, it’s time to replace it.

My 9-Day Test Period

Over nine days, I put the Upright to the test. Here’s how it panned out:

Day 1

I started using Upright the day I received my package. I was ready to begin my Day 1 training since I had downloaded the App, registered with Upright, set up the device, and viewed the video tutorials on training. The aim every day was 5 minutes, and it flew by in a flash. In reality, I spent a total of 8 minutes training without even realizing I had met my first daily objective. The App informed me that I had performed well and that my posture was excellent for eight minutes. I’m sure I had the yellow smiley face symbol for a few moments here and there, but Upright categorizes good and fair posture as “straight.” It is definitely powerful and encourages you to sit up straight if you feel the vibration from poor posture.


I pressed down on the power button in the middle of the upright machine after training was done to ensure it was off. I waited a few seconds for a quick vibration to occur, signifying that the device had switched off. I placed the gadget in the drawer next to the original packaging and continued on with my day.

Day 2

On the second day, I retrieved the Upright and switched it on. I noticed that the Upright was not synchronizing with my phone when I opened the App and looked at “My Dashboard.” You can instantly tell if it’s synchronizing with Bluetooth by looking to the right of your name under the “My Dashboard” section. If there’s a green icon with a checkmark, it indicates that the Bluetooth is operational. If you see a red X, it’s because your sync isn’t working. Simply ensure that Bluetooth is switched on in your phone’s settings. You may need to update the settings after turning your Bluetooth back on. The Upright should be located and synchronized as soon as possible.

I removed the adhesive pad (with the paper backing still in place!) from the perforated strip and secured it to the back of the Upright. Then I peeled off the paper while avoiding the sticky side and affixed it to my lower back above my pant line. I pushed the “Begin Training” button, but nothing happened. I recalled that I needed to calibrate the gadget before each use. I calibrated the Upright by clicking on the green icon next to my name.

My goal for today was to achieve 5 minutes, as it had been the day before. I finished in a quick amount of time and was kept straight the whole time.

Days 3 -9

I repeated this procedure for days 3-9 as my training times increased each day. By the third day, I could tell my muscles were getting trained to keep me sitting upright at my desk. I realized that I started to use my backrest less frequently because I got used to sitting at the edge of my desk as if I was wearing the Upright for most of the day, even though I only had it on for a few minutes at a time. I forgot to calibrate the device on a few occasions, but I was reminded when it wouldn’t start training. A few times, I forgot I was wearing the Upright and exceeded my regular workout objectives.

I had a problem during one calibration, and the Calibration Failure notice came on. It only lasted a few seconds, and then the calibration was finished shortly after. During my 9-day trial, I had this happen. I think the problem with calibration was caused by not sitting still during the procedure, so keep your excellent posture and slouch positions without moving throughout calibration.

I’m still working on completing the 21-day training program, and I’ll share my complete results and screen captures at a later date. Overall, I had a fantastic experience with this gadget and App. I think the price is fair for such a fantastic posture trainer that may be used again and again when your posture begins to deteriorate.

Usability and Comfort

The Upright Posture Trainer feels very comfortable and convenient to use for me. I downloaded the App on my Android phone for convenience, but it may also be used on a tablet. I always have my mobile on me at my workstation in the office, so that’s the gadget I went with. The actual gadget is very light and comfy to use. The soft rubber material is undetectable while worn on your back. The only time I realized I was still wearing it was when my posture began to slouch, and there was a tiny tremble. Aside from that, it’s really pleasant.

The only drawback of this gadget is that it’s not intended to be worn while standing or walking; thus, I’m limited to doing my workout on the weekdays when I’m sitting at my computer. However, I believe that this is unlikely to cause any problems for most individuals.
